KAYLA aka "The Bowser" is the queen of the house. I got her when she was only 6weeks old getting ready to be dumped at the pound back home in Germany. That was almost 12 years ago. Her biggest adventure was her flight from Germany over here in October 2014 to Dallas which followed a long drive to Kansas where our first home was going to be. In November 2015 we moved to NC. Kayla is a Heinz 57 who is for sure enjoying her retirement now at our place in Sanford which entails lots of sleeping of course (she isn’t a big fan of the current heat and humidity) and roaming around outside while I am doing barn work and taking care of our horses. She is holding down the fort while I am at work making sure she keeps the 3 indoor cats in line.
LOKI (orange) and SIF (tabby) are brother and sister that came home with my husband from Arkansas after he visited with his family 3 years ago. Due to Military life, which normally includes lots of moving, we decided to keep them indoor only which they don’t seem to mind at all. They've got plenty of room to roam as well as their very own homemade Catio!
Invite my Chipendale aka TRACKER joined the family in May of 2015 as a green broke 5 year old. He is a pleasure bred Quarter Horse that came out of a show barn in Beloit, KS. He sure likes to have a good time, enjoying a big buck here and there on the lunge line but sure doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He can be stubborn once in a while but is spoiled rotten for the most part, as my sister will agree with me. Always nosy and interested in the things that go on around the house and barn. His favorite thing to do is standing at the fence all day long watching the neighbor kids playing soccer.
Once we moved to North Carolina we decided to add another kitty to the gang. After looking for some time we finally found a Main Coon Mix named WALTER Cronkitty who was pulled from a kill shelter in Charlotte. Walter joined us in December 2015. Not very loving and happy at the beginning he sure is the cuddle bug of the family now that loves to give head butts and hugs all the time.
STERLING was part of our family for only 1 year unfortunately. We adopted him May 1st 2016 from a nearby rescue. He was in his 20s and a pasture buddy for Tracker. Due to severe navicular disease we decided to lay him to rest on June 3rd 2017. He is missed terribly.
KITTY the barn cat. October of 2016 I started to see a kitten running around the barn every day. After I refused to feed him at the beginning, I gave in the after about a week and put some food out. I have never really named him, hence the name Kitty, since I didn’t think he would stick around. Little did I know that this would become another addition to the family. He hasn’t left since, is happily neutered and vaccinated now and has his own room in the house whenever he has the urge to come inside.
Beginning of March 2017 while doing my barn chores I found something in the barn that you wouldn’t expect to find in your horse barn - A ferret! Not sure what to do with it first, we gave it some cat food (Kitty was kind enough to share) and decided to bring it into the house since it was still cold outside at that time. After asking around in the neighborhood as well as Petsmart and Petco to find the owners, nobody seemed to miss a ferret. So off to the vet we went. We found out it was a girl, between 1-2 years old that was probably dumped (we live on a dead end road) since ferrets aren’t animals you just find in the wild. So here we were. Another addition to the family... We named her Frankie the Ferret. Not having a clue about ferrets I had to do a lot of reading about nutrition, socializing and how you take care of them. And of course, surprise surprise, you aren’t supposed to have only one ferret and they shouldn’t live in a cage either. So we got her a friend in April of 2017 who was 3 months old at that point, named him Frodo and they are free roaming in their very own room with all kinds of toys all day long. They are both spayed and neutered and utd on all their shots.
Last but not least there is CHIEF the turd. Chief is the latest addition. He came to us in May 2017 when we knew that we had to put Sterling down. Chief is our youngster. He is a 4 year old Palomino Pinto Mini. He was gelded as soon as he came to us and is living his life as a happy gelding now. After working on the basics for a couple of months, halters are a scary thing you know, and once you see one, you need to make sure you are running away, we can get haltered now without a problem, stand tied and get brushed with no issues at all.
We love all our furbags and every single one of them is family but the vacancy sign was taken down on May 9th . No more :)
