I was very excited that Moore Equine offered the opportunity for us to sample and review some of their products. I was selected to provide a review for the Eqyss Grooming Products Barn Barrier Natural Fly Repellent. In the beginning I struggled to use the product since, although to all other's pleasure, North Carolina weather would not cooperate in that the cool temperature and light rain didn't provide any pests! But, North Carolina weather being what it is this time of year I was finally able to use and receive comments for this fine product. We keep three horses and a donkey where we are in Eastover. It is farming and agriculture, being all field crops, surrounded by a mixture of hardwood and pine. It is important to note that these fields to include the farm are also bordered by drainage ditches and small creeks. Furthermore where we ride is an open hay field with the same environmental aspects. Perfect vectors for testing this product! Ok, so now the fun part: We used the spray in strict accordance with the stated instructions which really are general to all products of this type. What I did, (and this was because of it's stated dual purpose of also being a barn spay) was apply it in the stall before turnout. This allowed me to protect the stall as well as the animal and extend and preserve the product. It dispenses well, a light dousing is all it takes. No need to shower your horse and wet the hair as with most other products. I did find in my observations that it is prudent to use a little more around the hoof and chestnut areas of the leg. This was especially so with Diva the Donkey. After that it was a turnout and watch! As a stall barrier it did what is says. Repelled flies. It is important to note that it is a repellent and a barrier and not intended as an insecticide for knocking down or killing flies; it simply helps repel and keep them out of the area.

In the field there was no stomping and head shaking from pests. Just the typical contentment of tails casually swishing. On the trail we did it a little different for testing purposes. One horse we sprayed again and my horse I did not. We rode in the area I described and well, there were flies! As well as mosquitoes. However, there was no annoyance from them on either horse. So, the single use, three hours prior to the ride was sufficient enough and, in my opinion, was not necessary. Take note that mosquito is not listed in the information. Yet, this product worked well in repelling them. We did not spray again. We left them overnight and the next morning a usual turnout. I'm on a dry lot. No grass so my animals are fed with nets and I bring them in for a light lunch. I used this time to apply the product and again turned them out. Comments from my girls here at our farm are all positive. From how the product dispenses to how the bottle holds in the hand. It has a pleasant smell, no sense of breathing poison and they stated that because the freshness was still present that the repelling aspects were too. We like this spray! Very much. It does what it says It is economical and the good folks at Moore Equine have it priced at a very reasonable $20.95. I've seen this and other Eqyss products priced higher. For me it is important to say that it is made in the U.S.A.! It is a small company out of Carlsbad California and I prefer to support these kinds of businesses. So, drop in, stop by and have a chat with the girls at Moore and grab a bottle. You won't regret it.
