Few things can be more challenging than sourcing your winter hay supply. Many variables affect it: what was the growing season like? - is this going to be a year when we are in short supply? How much storage space do you have? And most of all, what is the price? - are you getting the most bang for your buck? In Southern Pines we are in the unfortunate position that to get good quality hay, unless your horses thrive on Coastal or Fescue, it has to be shipped in because it cannot be grown locally.

Much of our time at Moore Equine is spent sourcing growers throughout the US and Canada to bring the best quality hay we can find to you. It is quite an in-depth process that involves sourcing farms with a large enough supply to provide a consistent product, receiving samples to ensure quality and organizing the transportation to get it here. The end result is that we bring a product into our warehouse whose quality we stand behind.

What does that mean for you? It means that you can rest assured that we have done all the leg work for you, and that the product that is in our bays is a quality standard you can rely on. Also, because we have sourced consistent supplies, you don’t need to worry about whether or not you have enough storage space for the entire winter - we have that covered for you. Finally, if you take advantage of our delivery service, we will stack it and clean up afterwards without you even having to be there - just like little elves!

We are proud to have partnered with Eastern Townships Acreages, a hay producer in Canada, that produces low starch hays - the Appalachian Blend; which is an Orchard, Timothy, Brome mix with a little clover, the Townships Blend; which is heavier in Timothy with some Orchard and Brome and the Hatley Blend; which is Timothy/Alfalfa. The NSC value of these hays ranges from 6% to 12%, making it a good choice for horses with metabolic issues. Furthermore, what we love about this supplier is that they use no herbicides, no pesticides and no artificial fertilizers. They prefer to rotate, till and reseed rather than use herbicides. Additionally, no propionic acid is used as a preservative (FYI - Many hay producers now use it to bale hay faster out of the fields. The propionic acid even comes standard with a green color, making the hay appear greener). Adding to the benefits ETA offers is that they cut the hay all at once and store it for us, which means the hay you buy in October is the same hay you buy in January. All our hay is high quality and competitively priced. We reject any load that does not meet our strict standards. When you buy hay at Moore Equine you can rest assured that we have done all the legwork for you, taking the constant hay worries out of the equation. PLUS we can do all the heavy lifting for you with our convenient and efficient delivery service as well! Stop by the store and we will be happy to give you a tour of our latest loads and help you find the best fit for your horses.
